A beautiful verse and an apt reminder for the times we live in. The respect, kindness, love that we expect from others must come from us first. 

Our actions should speak louder than our words.

    There was a very popular book when I was young, The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley. Characters included Mrs Do-as-you-would-be-done-by, who was nice, and Mrs Be-done-by-as-you-did... It's a good way to learn!

    I agree .. we see this hypocritism when the change of opinion happens when it comes to oneself. In my childhood, I would make fun of those who would quote this saying "What if their choices differ". Now I am mature to respect it.
