W is for Wallflower!

Dear Diary,

For W, I have chosen Wallflower.
\
I'm greatly inspired by Stephen Chbosky's coming of age novel, 'The perks of being a Wallflower.' The protagonist Charlie, is described as a wallflower, someone who sees things, keeps quiet and understands them.

Sometimes, we can all profit by being a wallflower. It's difficult but very rewarding. Try it, quietly observe your surroundings, instead of immediately giving your opinion listen to the conversation, don't judge people by what you may have heard give them a chance, see the plan slowly unfold before your eyes, because only when you become like a wallflower, you discover more about people and yourself.

Leaving you with a quote from the novel :

The Sunday Visitor.

  1. As an introvert, I think I naturally gravitate toward being a wallflower. I love to observe, and most of the time, I prefer not to be in the spotlight.

    Enjoyed your post!

  2. That makes a lot of sense "quietly observe your surroundings, instead of immediately giving your opinion listen to the conversation, don't judge people by what you may have heard give them a chance, see the plan slowly unfold before your eyes, because only when you become like a wallflower, you discover more about people and yourself"..... something that I do as I am a good listener. You get to learn a lot from that.

  4. I can really relate to this. When I was younger, I was pretty 'wallflowerish'...not so much, these days, but it was a challenged to get off the wall, for me :)

Thanks for dropping by and commenting, I appreciate it! :)

  5. Another wallflower here. But I've survived, and done some things very well. I'll can be gracious and acknowledge gifts, but I'd rather not be at the centre of things. Unless I'm responsible for what's happening. Then, I can be different — until the show is over, and I can go back to being myself.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  6. I was also a wallflower in my youth when everyone else seemed so light and bright with witty conversation! But the benefits were enormous! I loved to observe, maybe learn a bit, take in my surroundings, see how people interacted, how I wanted or wanted not to be. Wallflower also has 'flower' in it ..
Lovely post thank you! And have a great weekend!

  7. I am an introvert and I'm perfectly okay with it. I also happen to love my own company.

I haven't read this book or seen the movie yet. It's on my list though. :)

  8. I did not see that movie, but will find it on DVD.

Wasn't exactly a wallflower, but was comfortable with who I was.

  10. Another great post turning something we often perceive as negative into something positive. It is wonderful how there is always another way to look at things! We tend to think of wallflowers as someone to be pitied. I am always the wallflower in group situations, especially among people I don't know well. I will be the one in the corner quietly observing. But you are so right, when we step back and observe, and truly listen, we can learn so much more about a person, and even about ourselves! Those who feel they must always be the center of attention are often lacking in some other spot of their life, and use this forwardness as a cover. The world does not revolve around one person, whether that is us or someone else. We all revolve together, to stand back and watch that unfold around us is a beautiful thing!

  11. Thankyou. I'm a wallflower sometimes especially in unfamiliar surroundings and among strangers, and it's at these times that I learn the most. I love your perspective of looking at things!
